Futsal: La Fiorita-Murata stands out in a round with three indoor fixtures
After wrapping up a brilliant week – with a first league win followed by the sensational cup comeback against Fiorentino – Cosmos are now set for their rest round. The opportunity could favour Libertas who, with a win (their first in the league), could draw level on points with the Gialloverdi. But they must beware of Cailungo, their opponents in a derby that offers the Rossoverdi a chance to pull further clear of third-from-bottom – the first relegation spot – currently shared by Cosmos and Tre Fiori. The latter have recently halted their losing streak, although the 3-2 win over Pennarossa in the Titano Futsal Cup was not enough to see them through. The hunt for a victory that has been missing since the opening day, for Pollini’s boys, goes through a delicate clash with Juvenes-Dogana, who currently sit one point above the Gialloblù. They are not in their most “productive” spell in the league, but can take heart from their recent qualification for the Futsal Cup quarter-finals. Roberto Levani meanwhile welcomes back Simone Celli from suspension, and Pollini does likewise with Zanotti. After Juvenes-Dogana vs Tre Fiori, it will be Domagnano and Fiorentino’s turn to light up the evening in Dogana. Both have been knocked out of the Futsal Cup, albeit in different ways. The side with the Scudetto on their chest will try to turn into performance all the frustration from the comeback suffered against Cosmos, as well as answer the need to boost a league tally that currently reads one draw and one win against two defeats, the latest coming in the last round against Tre Penne. By contrast, Domagnano can ride the wave of enthusiasm from three straight wins which, added to their opening-day victory (plus the draw on matchday two), have lifted the Wolves to the upper reaches of the table, within striking distance of leaders Virtus and level with Murata. Villa also returns from suspension. The Multieventi court will host the meeting between Faetano and Pennarossa, the former coming off their rest round (and the previous draw with Cailungo, also at the Multieventi) and the latter buoyed by two straight wins followed by a painless defeat in the cup, which still brought qualification for the next round.
The only other match scheduled for Monday in a league round spread over three evenings is the one in Fiorentino between Folgore and Tre Penne. Penserini’s Biancoazzurri are aiming to rediscover the feel of their last league outing, when they got back to winning ways against Fiorentino, especially after a Thursday in the cup that brought, along with elimination, a heavy defeat at the hands of Virtus. Folgore, by contrast, have yet to play in the Futsal Cup and can therefore count on deeper energy reserves after their last league fixture, which ended in a heavy loss that mirrored the one in the previous game. Claudio Zonzini and his players are thus chasing a change of momentum to give fresh oxygen to their league position, up against opponents who can rightly be considered one of the most pleasant surprises of this start to the season.
Tuesday will be devoted to the showdown between Virtus and San Giovanni. The objective is simple and straightforward for the Neroverdi: extend the run of nothing but victories pieced together so far (cup included) and in so doing defend top spot from any possible challengers. San Giovanni, meanwhile, after progressing from the Futsal Cup round of 16, are still searching for their first league win, having only one draw to their name, picked up three matchdays ago against Folgore. Rossonero goalkeeper Valentini returns after serving a suspension. La Fiorita and Murata will bring the round to a close, facing off on Wednesday in the most intriguing fixture of matchday six. Montegiardino boast a 100% record but, with a game in hand, sit one point behind the Bianconeri in the table. With so many teams tightly packed around Murata and La Fiorita, there is widespread interest in this clash, the second game of the round to be played at the Multieventi and the third indoor overall. It will also serve as a fascinating teaser for the Titano Futsal Cup quarter-finals.
