Futsal: Virtus and La Fiorita slip up, Cailungo on the rise

On the night dedicated to the first six matches of Matchday 19 in the futsal league, it’s the defeats of Virtus and La Fiorita that make the headlines. Both were, and remain, level behind Pennarossa who, this evening, in the late fixture against bottom side Libertas, will have the chance to strengthen their grip on second place. Any idea of reopening the race for top spot, however, is for now to be ruled out. League leaders Murata continue to sail with a strong tailwind, often sweeping aside rather than just edging the opponents who cross their path. And a San Giovanni reduced to the bare bones had few chances of troubling the Bianconeri juggernaut, who hit double figures inspired by an inexhaustible Busignani. He stamps his name on 7 of the 13 goals scored by Spada’s side in the early kick-off at Fiorentino. Busignani opens the scoring at the very first attack, quickly imitated by Ghiotti. After the 3-0, again by Busignani, Ercolani also gets on the scoresheet for 4-0, the scoreline at the break. In the second half the Bianconeri’s attacking production becomes even more relentless. In addition to another five goals from Busignani and braces from Ghiotti and Ercolani, Cesarini also joins the party. At 12-0 San Giovanni have a surge of pride and score three times in the space of just 6 minutes, through Berardi, Volpinari and Rossi respectively. But the final word does not belong to Franchino’s team, as the match closes with Murata’s thirteenth strike, scored by Mattioli. We mentioned the “noisy” slip-ups by La Fiorita and Tre Penne. The former go down to Tre Penne in a direct clash, with Penserini’s side now cutting their deficit to the leading pack in the group to five points. It’s a Cola brace that gives the Città outfit a prestigious win, their third in a row. The young Biancoazzurro opens the scoring on 6 minutes and then repeats the feat almost at the death, just before Matteo Chezzi halves the deficit, but with the clock no longer on La Fiorita’s side. It’s La Fiorita’s third defeat of the season, while Virtus, unwillingly, move on to four. To punish Michelotti’s Neroverdi (who would be sent off in the closing stages) is a Cosmos side in sparkling form who, after beating Domagnano, raise the bar significantly and claim the scalp of one of the two sides sharing third place on the podium – even if Virtus, for now, sit formally behind La Fiorita for having lost the first head-to-head. Muccioli’s team come from behind to win. After 10 minutes of play, in fact, Virtus are 2-0 up thanks to goals from Pasqualini and Cevoli, and perhaps think that the job, or at least a good part of it, is already done. Instead, Cosmos stay in the contest. Cecchetti pulls one back just before the quarter-hour mark and then, in the second half, the Gialloverdi launch their remuntada. Virtus goalkeeper Giacobbi picks up an injury and is replaced by Bollini, who on 40 minutes is beaten by Dominici, himself later forced off injured. The 2-2 scoreline holds until the closing minutes. There, Molinas produces the match-winning spark, capitalising on an episode hotly contested by Virtus: paying the price are goalkeeper Bollini and coach Michelotti, both dismissed. Juvenes-Dogana win the head-to-head at the Multieventi and leapfrog Fiorentino, who remain level with Folgore, idle this round. Levani’s side claim their second win with a 2-0 scoreline, perfectly split between the two halves: Thomas Celli opens the scoring on 8 minutes and Mularoni closes it on 36 minutes. Another direct clash, with potentially heavier repercussions, was played in Dogana. Cailungo, fresh from overtaking Faetano, beat the Gialloblù side themselves and establish what is, for now, a reassuring gap between themselves and the trio of teams who, as things stand, would be left out of the regular season. The Rossoverdi’s victory is emphatic: 5-0. The undisputed star of the night is Elia Sarti, scorer of four goals, while the fifth is signed by another Elia, Venerucci. After last week’s slip-up, Domagnano bounce back. Their win over Tre Fiori is fairly clear-cut and only slightly blemished at the end, when Pollini’s side exploit the flying goalkeeper to come back from 5-0 to 5-2, which is also the final score. Before the goals from Crescentini and Esposito, the Wolves had pulled away with a brace from Filippo Dolcini and a goal from Davide Dolcini in the first half, followed by strikes from Righi and Bonfini after the restart. This evening, as mentioned, Pennarossa have the chance to extend their cushion over third place. The match will be played at the Acquaviva gym.
