La Fiorita chasing top spot on a Wednesday that will also decide the cup finalists
The BKN301 Campionato Sammarinese “puzzle” is not yet complete. One piece is still missing: the Matchday 16 fixture between Cailungo and La Fiorita, which was postponed at the time because of snow. The two sides will meet tomorrow evening in Domagnano (20:45), with one – La Fiorita – looking to reclaim top spot (currently two points away) at the expense of Cosmos, and the other – Cailungo – aiming to pull off an incredible five-place leap in the table at the expense of San Giovanni, Fiorentino, Juvenes-Dogana, Faetano and Pennarossa, all within reach with a win. It will certainly not be easy for Protti’s men, who will be hoping to draw on the urgency of reversing a negative run that has lasted two rounds and has seen them slip to third from bottom, a position to be avoided at all costs. On the other side, in addition to the quality at Manfredini’s disposal, an important factor will be the desire to go into Saturday afternoon’s eagerly awaited head‑to‑head with Cosmos in a position of strength. La Fiorita will be without Gasperoni, suspended by the Sports Judge after an accumulation of yellow cards.
But the evening of 8 February is above all about the second legs of the BKN301 Coppa Titano semi‑finals. The two ties took a fairly clear direction after the first 90 minutes, but surprises cannot be ruled out, especially in the case of Tre Penne v Libertas, with the Granata two goals down (Tre Penne won the first leg 2-0) but looking in excellent shape in the most recent stretch of the league, with Sperindio’s men having taken three points in each of the last four rounds. It remains a very tough task to overturn the provisional verdict written in the first leg by Gai and Dormi, not least because Tre Penne themselves can also be described as a side in form, given that, just like Libertas, Ceci’s team have also won four league matches on the bounce. Motivation will make the difference in this clash, which will take place on the Acquaviva pitch and will not feature the Granata player Pesaresi, who is suspended.
The gap between Virtus and Folgore is even wider after the first act of their double‑header with a place in the final at stake. Bizzotto’s side have practically booked their place in the next round with a clear‑cut 3-0 win secured by Buonocunto, Golinucci and Angeli, so game management – and perhaps energy management too – is uppermost in the thoughts of the Neroverdi, who will nonetheless be careful not to underestimate their opponents. The latter, for their part, have virtually nothing left to lose, so Lepri’s team can be expected to produce at least a bold and enterprising display, without worrying too much about worsening a situation that is already extremely difficult. Virtus will be without the suspended Nodari. The match will be played in Dogana and no longer in Montecchio.
It is worth remembering that, in the event of an aggregate tie on goals scored and conceded over the two legs at the end of tomorrow’s 90 minutes, the ties could go to extra time and, if necessary, penalties.
Here is the schedule for Wednesday’s cup and league action, with a reminder that all matches will be available live on Titani.TV:
