An absolute first: an in-depth analysis carried out by Deloitte on the San Marino football system and structured in a report which – in black and white – offers a truthful and reliable snapshot of the state of football in the Republic of San Marino. Presented to FSGC stakeholders on the evening of Tuesday 5 March 2024, the report responds to the Federation’s need to achieve two goals, as underlined by President Marco Tura. Firstly, to frame the real extent of the social and economic impact generated and guaranteed by the FSGC nationwide; secondly, to identify new strategic directions for the Federation, which through this analysis has been able to clearly understand where it currently stands – the necessary condition for deciding where it wants to go. “This report,” Tura succinctly explains, “provides a snapshot of the FSGC and its place within the social and economic fabric of the Republic of San Marino.”
The task of providing a detailed explanation of the process that led to the drafting of the document – as well as of the results obtained – was entrusted to Francesco Iannamorelli. The project drew on the unquestionable reliability and rigour of a global giant such as Deloitte in the detailed analysis and research of the data that underpin the report. The project lasted for over a year: that is how long it took to assess every evaluation element relating to the organisation of the San Marino Football Federation. And the outcomes were surprisingly positive, Iannamorelli confirms – bearing in mind that the value of the figures recorded must always be assessed in relation to the size of the country system in which they are generated, as well as to the FSGC workforce, which today consists of 16 employees.
In this context, the 1,733 registered players at all levels of football and futsal in the Republic represent a significant figure, given a total population of around 35,000. Alongside the high organisational efficiency delivered by the San Marino Football Federation, there have also been investments that have helped to reveal substantial potential.
While the first steps in drawing up the report involved a comprehensive census of the football population within the FSGC ecosystem, including San Marino Academy, the analysis of San Marino’s national teams also showed positive growth trends in terms of value generated. According to the algorithm developed by Deloitte itself, for example, the value of the San Marino national team has risen to an estimated €1.3 million, with the prospect of further appreciation given the relatively low average age of the Titani.
The positive assessment of the organisation is also due to the many initiatives supporting the FSGC’s image and strengthening its brand, which underwent a major refresh around 2021. This was not a simple logo redesign, but a virtuous process of associating a clearly defined brand identity with a set of values stated and detailed by the Federation, supported by documents such as the 2021–2024 Strategic Plan. Among many successful projects, special mention goes to the initiatives linked to the 90th anniversary commemorative shirt; the donation of a national team shirt to every newborn in San Marino; and the launch of TITANI.TV, the Federation’s own platform, which has enabled San Marino football to transcend its borders and be viewed and accessed from every corner of the world.
The report also highlights the activities that the FSGC has been providing in support of families and citizens on a daily basis for many years. In practical terms, this includes free transport for all members of the San Marino Academy youth sector, as well as activities dedicated to specific categories of people, whether athletes or not: from walking football to the recently renewed agreement with the Over 35 Footballers’ Association (ASCO 35).
Deloitte underlined that the achievement of so many enviable goals has been possible above all because they were set out – in black and white – in strategic corporate documents, and reiterated the soundness of the FSGC’s corporate governance. Among the documents of fundamental importance in this respect is the FSR Strategy, which is guiding the development of recent and upcoming federal projects, all characterised by steady progress towards ambitious targets – clearly stated and objectively measurable. All of this serves to guarantee the San Marino Football Federation the credibility that international football bodies (FIFA and UEFA) have recognised in the FSGC for years, and which can now be explored in depth in the Football Report.
