League: leaders facing potential pitfalls

A third set of matches in the space of a week awaits the San Marino clubs. After the exertions of the cup for the eight sides involved in the quarter-finals, the league resumes tomorrow with the 11th round. There are some very intriguing clashes in store, especially at the top, where leaders Virtus and Tre Fiori – both in action on Saturday at 15:00 – will need to be on their guard. Bizzotto’s Neroverdi travel to Fiorentino to face Domagnano: the Giallorossi are on a five-game unbeaten run (four wins and a draw) and have not conceded for 240 minutes. They are also third in the table and, with a win, would move to within just two points of the Acquaviva side.

It promises to be a delicate and demanding round also for the other team at the summit, Tre Fiori. The Gialloblù head to Montecchio for a top-of-the-bill encounter with La Fiorita: effectively it is a meeting between the best attack (La Fiorita, 28 goals) and the best defence (Tre Fiori, 3 goals conceded). In addition, Tre Fiori and La Fiorita are, together with Virtus, the only unbeaten sides left in the competition. The table, however, is not smiling on Ceci’s team – still paying for the 5-point deduction imposed at the start of the season – as the Gialloblù lie sixth and nine points off the top.

Just above La Fiorita are Folgore and Tre Penne, who on Saturday will do battle in Domagnano in another unmissable fixture. The form of the Giallorossoneri and the Biancoazzurri is fairly similar (both are unbeaten in four) and they are separated by just a single point in the table.

Completing tomorrow’s programme are San Marino Academy and Juvenes-Dogana, who meet on the artificial surface in Acquaviva. Boldrini’s side come into it on the back of very good performances in the league (victory over Faetano) and in the cup (a draw with Tre Penne), while things are not going so well for Di Maio’s Titani – still searching for their first win of the season.

There are four games also on Sunday, all scheduled for 15:00. After their cup débaclé against Tre Fiori, Cosmos are looking to bounce back. They will try to do so in Montecchio against a Cailungo side in crisis: the Rossoverdi are on the worst run of form in the league (seven straight defeats). Selva’s team, by contrast, are on a six-game unbeaten streak.

The match in Acquaviva between Libertas and Fiorentino looks more finely balanced. Just one point separates the two sides, with the Rossoblù ahead of the Granata, who may have to contend with some cup fatigue. Costantini’s team come off a valuable win in the last round against Cailungo, while the Granata have not recorded a victory for two months.

A similar scenario could unfold in Domagnano between Faetano and San Giovanni – also separated by just one point in the standings. Sperindio’s Gialloblù have not won since 3 October, while the Rossoneri have collected five points from their last four outings. The match, in addition to being broadcast on Titani.tv, will also be available on FIFA +.

Also kicking off on Sunday at 15:00 are Murata and Pennarossa. The Biancorossi’s form has been up and down, but Ricchiuti’s team are into double figures in terms of points and sit steadily in ninth place. The Bianconeri, meanwhile, remain at the foot of the table after their cup defeat to La Fiorita.
