League, rescheduled Matchday 21: Cosmos defend Guidi’s goal and go top
The 1-0 scoreline signed by Guidi remains unchanged even sixteen days on. The second half of Cosmos – Libertas – completed last night after a double postponement – holds no nasty surprises for the yellow-green side coached by Berardi, who protect the advantage earned on 26 February and, at the final whistle, can celebrate overtaking Tre Penne at the top. The new leaders opt to manage their 1-0 lead, only initially exposing themselves to a counter-attack from Ben Kacem, who goes down in the area but, in the referee’s view, without being fouled; so much so that the maroon forward is booked for simulation. At the other end, a dangerous right-foot effort from the edge of the box by Errico, deflected, runs just wide of the post. Even closer to the target goes Pastorelli at the end of a swift break finished off by Capicchioni: his angled drive shaves the woodwork with Gentilini beaten. But to secure all three points, Aldo Simoncini’s hands are also needed. The yellow-green goalkeeper, a notable former Libertas player, is simply outstanding on 83 minutes as he parries a powerful close-range strike from Olcese, who had been freed in the box by a rebound. In the remaining minutes Cosmos merely need careful game management, which ultimately allows them to bring home a victory that takes them top. The only blemish on the night is the sending-off (from the bench) of Capicchioni for directing a few too many words at the opposition.
