League: title in sight for Virtus, playoffs still wide open

In the run-up to Easter, the 29th and penultimate matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese will be played entirely between Friday 18 and Saturday 19 April. Eight fixtures that could prove decisive both at the top and bottom of the table, with Virtus one step away from the title and the race for the post-season still wide open.

A particular feature of this round is the Friday schedule, with all games kicking off at 21:15. Cailungo will take on Pennarossa in Domagnano. The Rossoverdi are chasing a win that has been eluding them for several matchdays in order to revive their hopes of snatching the last available playoff spot. The Biancorossi, for their part, are aiming for three points to move above San Marino Academy in the table, climb off the bottom and catch Cailungo.

At the same time, Murata and Faetano will meet at the “Federico Crescentini” Stadium in Fiorentino. The Bianconeri are in the hunt for eighth place and are targeting a positive result to stay in the playoff positions. The Gialloblù, meanwhile, want to finish a difficult season on a high and get back to winning ways after going more than a month without a victory.

At the Montecchio Stadium it will be Fiorentino v Cosmos. The Rossoblu, coming off an important win, are looking to strengthen their hold on the last place that grants direct access to the post-season. On the other side, the Gialloverdi, after drawing with Juvenes-Dogana, are seeking consistency to restore stability in their results.

San Marino Academy and Tre Penne will also play on Friday at 21:15 at the “Ezio Conti” Stadium in Dogana. The Titans, buoyed by a win in the last round, will try to extend their positive run to pull away from Pennarossa (currently level on points but behind on head-to-head) and perhaps catch Cailungo on 19 points. The Biancoazzurri from Città, while starting as favourites, need to get back to winning ways after two rounds without a victory to secure a place in the direct playoffs.

On Saturday all matches are scheduled for 15:00. San Giovanni and Domagnano will face each other on the Domagnano pitch. The Rossoneri, after a mixed run of form, are chasing three points to close in on Folgore in fourth place. The Wolves, on the other hand, must put an end to their run of five consecutive defeats to relaunch their post-season ambitions and stay ahead of Libertas, who are currently level on points but behind the Giallorossi on head-to-head. The match between San Giovanni and Domagnano will also be streamed live on the FIFA+ platform.

At the same time at the Montecchio Stadium, Virtus v Tre Fiori will take centre stage, a key clash in the Scudetto race. Bizzotto’s men will seek victory to celebrate top spot with a matchday to spare, as well as to continue their golden run. The Gialloblu, for their part, will try to spoil the leaders’ party and pick up points to consolidate third place.

At the Fiorentino Stadium it will instead be Folgore v Libertas. The Giallorossoneri, already sure of a place in the direct playoffs, want to get back to winning after four games without a victory. The Granata, on the other hand, are in desperate need of a win that would allow them to stay in the hunt for the post-season. 

The round will be completed by the match between Juvenes-Dogana and La Fiorita at the Dogana Stadium. The Biancorossoblu are unbeaten in four and want to extend their positive streak to remain in the playoff race. Lining up against them, however, will be a Gialloblu side that is still unbeaten in the league and aiming to finish the regular season without defeat, while hoping to delay Virtus’ title celebrations.
