League: Tre Penne and Tre Fiori cancel each other out, chance for Virtus

Tre Fiori are halted after six wins from six. The big match opening the programme for matchday seven ends goalless. Tre Penne fail to claw back any points on the leaders and now seriously risk coming under threat in third place from Folgore and Domagnano, both in action tomorrow. But the real opportunity falls to Virtus: if Bizzotto’s side beat Faetano, they will draw level with Tre Fiori in the most coveted position, creating a duo at the top.

For now, though, there is only one league leader, Tre Fiori, who are quicker out of the blocks in Acquaviva. On 11 minutes Bernardi goes it alone with a sombrero out wide followed by a left-footed shot that finishes well off target. The number 10 in yellow and blue again looks for the opener with a wayward effort – from an excellent position – that does not do justice to Dolcini’s fine assist. After the half-hour mark, Prandelli clips the crossbar with a header from a free-kick, but having started from an offside position. Tre Penne appear a few minutes later with a move of real quality: Fabbri’s backheel “arms” Nigretti’s cross, who looks for Turchetta but cannot pick him out inside the six-yard box. The leaders respond immediately with a brave, venomous volley from Dolcini from medium range: the ball goes wide, though not by much. After the restart, Tre Penne begin with more conviction. On 54 minutes Turchetta delivers an inch-perfect trivela cross for the run of Fabbri, who volleys a glorious chance off target. Casadio then tries his luck from distance: a powerful right-footed strike, but just over the bar. Headers from Badalassi and Casadio do not trouble Nardi, nor does Berardi’s low drive from long range. Tre Fiori push forward again in the last ten minutes, relying on the freshness of the substitutes. Mema, with his chest, lays the ball off for Censoni, who closes his body too much despite enjoying plenty of freedom around the edge of the box. Tre Penne mount one last, very serious attempt to win it through Peluso, who cuts in from the left, bursts into the area but fatally loses his footing at the moment of truth. Tre Fiori reply with a left-footed effort from Bernardi on the edge of the box: not particularly well angled, and Migani gathers. There are no further alarms: Tre Fiori and Tre Penne share the points. Now the ball, figuratively speaking, is with the reigning champions.
