National Team: Andorra claim 2-0 home win

At the Estadi Nacional in Andorra, San Marino fielded one of the youngest line-ups in the history of the National Team. There was just one player born before the year 2000, namely captain Marcello Mularoni. Giacopetti sparked the first dangerous move, winning the ball off Garcia, bursting into the penalty area and then being crowded out by the home defence. Andorra replied on 10 minutes with a ball in behind for Rosas, who beat the San Marino backline and, one-on-one with Colombo, stretched to push the ball past him and open the scoring. Midway through the half there was more work for the San Marino keeper, who was decisive in turning away Fernández’s right-footed effort. Shortly afterwards, San Marino threatened from a rehearsed free-kick move involving Lazzari, Fabbri and Contadini: the latter powered his way into the box from the corner of the area before being brought down by Cervós. From that position, Lazzari swung the ball into the middle, where Christian Garcia cleared. At the other end Andorra doubled their lead: a fine exchange between Cervós and Pujol ended with the captain of the Tricolor picking out the top corner with a perfect diagonal strike. Before the break, Lazzari wriggled away from two opponents and cut the ball back from the byline. In the box, Sensoli and Giacopetti both went to ground, with the latter in particular appearing to be in a favourable position compared to Christian Garcia – who used his hands to snuff out the danger. The tempo dropped after the restart, with the first real thrill once again coming from Pujol, whose goal for 3-0 was ruled out after a scrappy but persistent attacking move in the San Marino area. At the other end, substitute Giocondi took a quick free-kick to switch play and send Sensoli through one-on-one. The winger cut inside onto his right and forced a save from Álvarez, who was then replaced by his namesake, the Andorran head coach. Shortly afterwards Lazzari tried his luck in similar fashion, but San Nicolás threw his body in the way. For San Marino there was also a full senior debut for goalkeeper Matteo Zavoli, who replaced Colombo between the posts. A scare followed for the La Fiorita custodian when a risky back-pass from Zannoni looped over him and came back off the post. It was the last major incident before the final whistle, which confirmed Andorra’s 2-0 victory.
