A new women’s futsal project is launched
The FSGC has launched a new women’s futsal project aimed at providing fresh opportunities for local players, with a twofold objective: to supplement the development of players already involved in an 11-a-side football pathway with the principles of five-a-side football, and to recruit new talent in a strategic perspective for future projects such as a soon-to-be-created senior women’s national football team and a women’s futsal national team. The women’s futsal team is the result of a synergy between the Futsal Department and the Women’s Football Department of the FSGC and will take part in the league organised by the Forlì Committee of the C.S.I. (Centro Sportivo Italiano).
Futsal has been chosen as a tool for inclusion and development, capable not only of attracting new players, but also of bringing former athletes back into the game and discouraging those currently active from dropping out – an occurrence that is unfortunately not uncommon in San Marino, as in other corners of international football. The number of players who have joined the project has been more than encouraging. They are joined by girls from the San Marino Academy youth sector (Under 17 and Primavera), who will rotate into the squad, thus becoming part of the new project focused on finishing and technical improvement for the athletes. The coaching staff is entirely from San Marino, led by head coach Mattia Casadei, assisted by Lorenzo Bollini (fitness coach) and Gianpaolo Brighi (goalkeeping coach). The team, which plays under the name San Marino Academy, made its debut last night at the Palazzetto Flaminio in Rimini, where it faced the home side Virtus Romagna. It will be back on court on Sunday afternoon at the Palestra di Acquaviva (6:00 p.m.) for its first home match.
These were the comments from the FSGC management on the creation of the new team: “This project represents a concrete opportunity for our girls to continue experiencing sport in a sustainable and educational way. It will not be an easy journey, but by combining expertise, passion and our Sammarinese identity we can build something lasting and meaningful in both football and futsal, ensuring equal opportunities for all our players.”
