Roberto Cevoli is the new Head Coach of the National Team
It is San Marino native Roberto Cevoli, who will turn 55 on 29 December, who is taking over the technical leadership of the San Marino National Team. The CV of the former Modena defender (with whom he also played two Serie A seasons) speaks for itself, and has translated into prestigious and successful positions as a coach once he hung up his boots. Most recently he has been in charge of Imolese, Renate and Novara, all in Serie C and fully professional environments, just like his previous experiences at Reggio Calabria or his first spell in charge of the Nerazzurri Panthers. The same can be said of Foligno and Monza, the first clubs to bet on his coaching future some fifteen years ago, not to mention his time on benches abroad and in other highly competitive settings across Italy.
And yet, in many ways, it all started in San Marino. Three seasons from 1986 onwards effectively launched the career of the central defender who for many years wore the maroon or claret shirts of Fano, Reggina, Reggiana and Torino, while also becoming a reference point for top clubs in Emilia-Romagna: among them Carpi, Cesena and especially Modena. With the Canarini he achieved back‑to‑back promotions from Serie C to Serie A, before ending his playing career at Crotone.
A name often linked, even in the past, with the San Marino National Team job – that of Roberto Cevoli – is now officially confirmed: "In recent years I have often been mentioned among the potential Head Coaches of the San Marino National Team and from my side this opportunity was never ruled out a priori, quite the opposite. It is a chance I grabbed with both hands, as new as it is stimulating. I like to think I can try to give something back to San Marino for what San Marino gave me personally at the very start of my career," commented the new coach of the Titans.
The San Marino FA has opted for a profile with proven ability and professional pedigree, in the hope of raising the bar even further – as reiterated by Montecchio: "The aim must always be to improve further, and for that to happen we will need the contribution of everyone, across the board. The process already under way is built on significant potential for San Marino football, which has shown it is on the right path and – considering the current period – blessed with players of very good quality. With time and hard work, we can and must target further milestones."
The specific dynamics of football in San Marino are certainly not unknown territory for coach Cevoli: "I know the dynamics of non‑professional football quite well and in my career I have come across many professionals in amateur teams, just as the opposite has happened. For the National Team to progress along a path that has already proved competitive and interesting, it will be essential to build mutual trust among all the key actors in the San Marino football system. Cooperation with the clubs where the players are registered will, of course, be crucial and, if it proves fruitful, everyone will benefit."
Coach Cevoli will meet journalists and media outlets tomorrow morning at a press conference scheduled in the Press Room of the San Marino Stadium at 11:30. The event will be available live via streaming on TITANI.TV.
