San Marino’s national teams make history with the official debut of the Women’s Under-19
A new chapter in the history of San Marino football is about to be written. For the first time ever, a women’s national team of San Marino will take part in an official UEFA competition: specifically, the qualifiers for the 2026 UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship. The light blue girls, led by head coach Giacomo Piva, left yesterday for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will host the mini-tournament for Group 3 of League B – the starting point of San Marino women’s football on the continental stage. Promotion to League A is at stake, with access reserved for the six group winners and the best runner-up among the other second-placed teams. The only exception is Bosnia and Herzegovina who – as hosts of the final tournament that will award the European title (from 27 June to 10 July 2026) – will take part in the final phase regardless of their results over the coming days.
Alongside the hosts and San Marino, Romania and Ukraine also make up Group B3 of the qualifiers for the Women’s Under-19 EURO. They are certainly among the toughest possible opponents that could have been drawn, given that both sides come from last spring’s experience in League A. Even though the light blue girls are unable to count on the full squad at their disposal, they will be determined to make their continental debut in the best possible way, building on the encouraging signs shown in recent friendlies. The most recent double-header with Cyprus yielded one win (2-0) and one draw (1-1). Fully aware of the significantly higher level posed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Ukraine, excitement and anticipation are sky high ahead of what – regardless of results – will go down in history as the first participation of a women’s national football team of the Republic of San Marino in an official continental tournament.
The fixture list hands the light blue girls their debut against Romania tomorrow, in Novi Gradski at 13:00. Three days later, with the same kick-off time, they will take on highly rated Ukraine in Bijeljina. San Marino will finish against hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are staging the group, on Tuesday 2 December – again in Bijeljina and again with kick-off at 13:00. While awaiting official confirmation regarding potential streaming coverage of the group, it is reasonable to expect that San Marino’s third and final match could be broadcast on the official channels of the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
