Women’s football: the first U19 national team on the starting blocks for Euro 2025-26

The history of football and of San Marino’s national teams is about to write a new chapter, starting from the qualifying draw for next year’s UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship, scheduled tomorrow in Nyon from 11:00. For the first time, the Swiss draw will also feature a San Marino women’s national team: it will be an Under-19 side, following on from the projects officially launched just over a year ago, when the first women’s biancazzurra national team – then Under-16 – stepped onto the international stage to take part in a Development Tournament (also achieving a shoot-out win over Estonia). This time, three points will be at stake, as well as a first-ever appearance in competitive fixtures.

In charge of the Women’s Under-19s will be Giacomo Piva, already Head Coach of the Women’s Under-16 national team. The date with history is set for tomorrow at 11:00. San Marino will be drawn into one of six groups of four teams within League B of Round 1, starting from the fourth seeding pot along with Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Liechtenstein – all teams that the young Biancazzurre therefore cannot face. At least one of the sides relegated from League A in the spring will instead be drawn against the Titane, who will also have a one-in-six chance of meeting Ukraine, the seventh national team relegated to this level. For League B teams such as San Marino, promotion to the higher tier is at stake; from there – in spring 2026 – the finalists of the next European Championship will emerge. Group winners and the best runner-up will be promoted to League A. Alongside the draw, the host nations for the mini-tournaments will be selected; these will in principle be played either between 20-28/10 or 24/11-02/12.
