BKN301 Championship: weekend of fixtures that look evenly balanced on paper

Kicking off Saturday’s action in the BKN301 San Marino Championship will be the clash in Domagnano between San Giovanni and La Fiorita. The former are still riding the wave of last weekend’s win over Fiorentino, something that will certainly work in favour of Tognacci’s players. The coach, however, will not be able to give instructions from the dugout as he has been handed a one-match touchline ban after accumulating too many yellow cards. On the other side, Montegiardino are eager to bounce back after losing their top-of-the-table showdown with Virtus; a win would allow them to keep pace with the leading pack. At the same time Faetano and Folgore will face off at the Crescentini in Fiorentino. The two sides come into it in contrasting form: Pellegrino’s men are fresh from being knocked out of the Coppa Titano – albeit after making life difficult for Tre Fiori – and from a heavy 4-1 defeat to Cailungo in the previous league round. The Falciano outfit arrive with a generally positive run, thanks to three consecutive positive results (including the Coppa Titano), and intend to keep winning to improve a league position that currently sees them eighth. The Giallorossoneri are well aware, though, that they will have to do without an important player in Sylla, who was sent off against San Giovanni for a second yellow card. The standout fixture of matchday eight is undoubtedly the meeting between last season’s top two, Cosmos and Tre Penne. Cosmos have so far failed to live up to expectations. In the league they already trail Virtus by 11 points and are coming off a nightmare outing against Tre Fiori, in which they succumbed to a manita. Things went no better for Berardi’s players in the Coppa Titano, where they were knocked out by the side from Città. They will be desperate for revenge for that elimination and, moreover, cannot afford any further missteps if they are to stay in the title race. On the other side, Ceci’s men are still unbeaten this season and come into the game on the back of six straight league wins, driven by a super in-form Badalassi, who has scored eight goals in seven matches. The Biancazzurri have no intention of slowing down as they look to keep Virtus in their sights and, why not, overtake them should the Acquaviva side slip up. Another intriguing Saturday afternoon contest, albeit not at the top of the table, is the Borgo Maggiore derby between Libertas and Cailungo in Montecchio. Both teams have been inconsistent this season, even if recent results have been positive for both. Sperindio’s Granata come into this game buoyed by progress in the cup, where they swept aside Juvenes-Dogana with a resounding 5-0 win, and by their league draw with Folgore. Libertas are starting to find their feet after a difficult start. For tomorrow’s match they will be without Guglielmi, who must serve a suspension after an accumulation of yellow cards. Iencinella’s Cailungo are in high spirits after their excellent 4-1 victory last time out over Faetano and a fine Coppa Titano performance against La Fiorita, even if it was not enough to avoid elimination. The Rossoverdi too are on the up after three under-par displays. Also in Montecchio, but at 18:15, the clash between Domagnano and Virtus will round off Saturday’s fixtures. Both sides go into the match fully aware of their strengths. The Wolves are coming off three consecutive league wins and cup progress at Murata’s expense. Babboni and his team-mates have everything it takes to end Virtus’ unbeaten run. As mentioned, Bizzotto’s team top the table with a perfect record of 21 points and have conceded only three goals since the start of the Championship. The first of Sunday’s fixtures, which will all kick off at 15:00, sees Tre Fiori and Juvenes-Dogana meet in Domagnano. The Gialloblù are in scintillating form after their 5-0 victory in their last match against Cosmos, inspired by a four-goal haul from a superb Cecconi. Their only league defeat dates back to their opening game against Virtus. By contrast, the Serravalle club, after an excellent start to the season, are coming off a draw with San Marino Academy Under 22 despite having led by two goals. Things were no better in the Coppa Titano, where a 5-0 defeat to Libertas condemned them to elimination. For these reasons Amati’s players are seeking a reaction against opponents who will start as clear favourites. At the same time in Fiorentino, Murata take on Pennarossa. After an exhilarating start to the campaign, the Bianconeri have hit the brakes abruptly: they were knocked out of the cup by Domagnano and beaten 3-0 by Tre Penne in the previous league round. On Sunday they will have an excellent chance to bounce back and avoid losing touch with the leading sides. Nobile’s men, meanwhile, are still chasing their first points of the season. They will face tricky opposition, but come into the game on the back of decent performances despite their defeats. Wrapping up the matchday eight programme will be the Montecchio encounter between Fiorentino and San Marino Academy Under 22, separated by just a single point in the table in favour of the Biancazzurri. A win for either side would lift them away from the danger zone. Cecchetti’s team head into the fixture in better form, having produced a fine comeback from 2-0 down to 2-2 against Juvenes-Dogana. Camillini’s players, on the other hand, come into it on the back of three straight league defeats, despite the satisfaction of progressing in the Coppa Titano. In their bid to relaunch their campaign, the Rossoblù will be without a key player in Diop, one of the team’s standout performers, who is suspended for one match after an accumulation of yellow cards. Here is the full schedule for matchday eight of the 2023-24 BKN301 San Marino Championship, which will be broadcast in full live and free via streaming on Titani.tv (commentary in Italian):
