Futsal: big wins for Folgore and San Giovanni, Virtus climb to second

There was no shortage of twists and turns on Thursday’s programme for Matchday 22 of the futsal championship. Starting from the lower reaches of the table, San Giovanni stunned Domagnano to rekindle their play-off ambitions. The Rossoneri had not won since the very first game of the season. They rediscovered that winning feeling by overturning a Domagnano side who took the lead on 23 minutes through Sensoli, but then faded after the break, allowing Volpinari to level and, on 58 minutes, goalkeeper Manzaroli to complete the turnaround. There is still a way to go for San Giovanni, but the table now says that the gap to Faetano is three points smaller than before: 6 rather than 9. That is because Selva’s Gialloblù were unable to contain Virtus. The latter made it three wins on the bounce and drew level with Tre Penne in second place (in fact overtaking them on head-to-head record), with Tre Penne held by Cosmos. The match in Dogana was opened by Zafferani, who put Virtus ahead on 9 minutes. The gap then widened to 6-0 thanks to goals from Cevoli, Morini and Morganti, plus two own goals, from Bacciocchi and Calzolari. The same Calzolari would also sign Faetano’s consolation goal, on a night that brought their fifth straight defeat.

Fiorentino, however, were unable to take advantage, going down to Juvenes Dogana. The emphatic 3-0 win for Cellarosi’s men bore two signatures: Simone Celli, who scored twice, and Cavalli. With this – their third consecutive victory – Juvenes pull clear of Cosmos and climb into 6th place, immediately followed by Folgore, who pull off a big result against Pennarossa. The indoor encounter was lively and full of goals, though the deadlock was only broken late in the first half, when Gasperoni struck between the Giallorossoni goals from Ercolani and Muccioli. Ahead at the interval, Folgore then tried to break away thanks to Bacciocchi and Casali. Pennarossa at that point mounted a comeback which, however, fell short. Goals from Verri and Angelini were not enough to prevent the Biancorossi from suffering their first defeat of 2026, a loss that pushes them away from the cosy Fab Four lounge now defined by La Fiorita.

And speaking of the top four, there were changes at the very summit of the standings. Tre Penne were held to a draw and lost not only ground on the leaders but also second place. And it could have ended even worse for Penserini’s men, given that Cosmos were leading 3-2 until shortly before the final whistle. It was Gabrielli, in the first minute of stoppage time, who salvaged the evening to some extent for the Biancoazzurri and dealt a heavy blow to Franchino’s side, who were overtaken by Folgore and dropped behind Juvenes Dogana. Molinas was in sparkling form: he converted a penalty to cancel out Tre Penne’s first lead, scored by Bernardi, and then also equalised Cola’s second. And it was again he who, on 51 minutes, completed a deceptive hat-trick for the Gialloverdi, ultimately undone by Gabrielli. Amid all this, Murata were grateful and immediately restored their four-point cushion thanks to a resounding win over Libertas. In the 8-0 victory for the Bianconeri, the goals came from Aruci, Contato, Moretti (brace), Mattioli (brace) and Dominella (brace). Less eye-catching but still perfectly clear-cut was La Fiorita’s win, which, as mentioned, extends the gap between themselves and the chasing pack headed by Pennarossa. Tre Fiori were hit for five, but there were only two names on the scoresheet: Cecchini, who opened the scoring with a brace, and Pellegrini, who finished the job with a hat-trick.
