Nations League: San Marino in Group C1 with Albania, Finland and Belarus

For the first time, the San Marino National Team enters the UEFA Nations League draw at League C level. This achievement was made possible by winning their League D group ahead of Gibraltar and Liechtenstein in autumn 2024. Joining the Biancazzurri in Pot 4 are the other promoted side – Moldova – and the two teams that will prevail in the March play-offs. The Malta/Luxembourg and Gibraltar/Latvia ties will determine – in just over a month’s time – the final line-up of Leagues C and D. In any case, they could not be drawn against Roberto Cevoli’s team, which had one option from each pot:

  1. Iceland, Albania, Montenegro or Kazakhstan
  2. Finland, Slovakia, Bulgaria or Armenia
  3. Belarus, Faroe Islands, Cyprus or Estonia

The draw ceremony, held at Brussels Expo, handed San Marino match-ups with Albania, Finland and Belarus. None of the Titans’ upcoming opponents will be new. Looking back at the history of the competition, Belarus were San Marino’s very first opponents in the UEFA Nations League. Coached at the time by Varrella, San Marino made their debut in Minsk. This time, however, the meeting with the Belarusians will in all likelihood be played on neutral ground.

In the coming hours UEFA will release the fixture list, with matches to be played in the new September-October international window (unified from this year, with four games) and in November. In total, the Biancazzurri will play six matches in the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League, with no friendly commitments next autumn as they return to a four-team group. Still to be finalised are the two official friendlies in June and the one in March, which will serve as a warm-up for the home fixture in Serravalle against Andorra – scheduled for the 31st of the same month at the San Marino Stadium, with kick-off at 18:00.

Earlier in the day, the Belgian capital also hosted the 50th Ordinary UEFA Congress. Representing the San Marino Football Federation were President Marco Tura, Vice President Simone Grana and General Secretary Luigi Zafferani.
