Scarves for maple syrup: Daniel’s story reaches San Marino

Daniel Robertson is a young Canadian student with a passion for both travelling and football. In the middle of the pandemic, his two greatest passions are, of course, affected. Travelling is no longer possible, and nor is going to the stadium to support your team. So one day, Daniel has an idea. While watching football videos on YouTube, he notices there is one item that unites fans all over the world: the scarf. Unable to travel, Daniel sets himself a goal: to obtain at least one football scarf from every country in the world. In return, he decides to trade the item for maple syrup, one of the symbols of his country. He then posts a simple message on the social network Reddit explaining his idea. In the days that follow, and much to his surprise, Daniel receives a huge number of messages from all over the world. His project can now take shape. He looks for a maple syrup supplier and prepares the parcels to send. Meanwhile, a large number of scarves – and other pieces of merchandise – start arriving at his home. In just six months he collects over 100 scarves from more than 50 different countries. Among them is also that of the San Marino national team. Daniel is, of course, grateful to everyone for this wonderful gesture, but his real aim is to visit in person – as soon as possible – all the countries that have taken part. The months go by and restrictions begin to ease. Daniel organises a trip to Europe and last May he also arrives in San Marino, visits the San Marino Stadium and meets some members of the Football Federation – offering them, and letting them taste, his trusty maple syrup. Everything is documented on the young man’s TikTok channel, including his wish that, now we have received his special syrup, we might finally get back to winning ways.
